Route 1: Saturday 30 May, Chevington to St Edmundsbury Cathedral NOW POSTPONED UUNTIL 31 AUGUST 2020
Route 2: Saturday 22 August, Rougham to St Edmundsbury Cathedral NOW POSTOPNOED UNTIL 2021
Our Pilgrimage of Song series in Suffolk and Essex continues in 2020 with two routes that form part of the series of events to celebrate the millennium of the founding of the Abbey of St Edmund.
Route 1 (Saturday 30 May) begins at Chevington, and proceeds through Ickworth Park (following the old Abbott's Way), before picking up the Edmund Way into the town.
Route 2 (Saturday 22 August) begins at St Mary's, Rougham, and includes the unusual church of St Nicholas at Rushbrooke. This event is the final stage of the Ethelbert Pilgrimage from Falkenham to St Edmundsbury Cathedral, taking place in stages during 2020.
Country walking, varied music and great company
The day will start with a workshop at which we learn the music repertoire for the day. There will be a variety of music styles, with a mix of unison singing and some 4-part harmony - some easy, some a little more challenging, but certainly something for everyone.
We then begin our walk to the cathedral, calling at churches and singing a short service in each. The day ends with Compline in the cathedral, and a hot meal in Pilgrim's Kitchen.
Come prepared to sing or simply listen. Those who can't walk the whole route may make other arrangements for travel between churches.
What does it cost?
A donation of £15 per person is requested, payable in cash on the day (to enable Gift Aid recovery). Just £5 for under 30s. The donation helps to offset the costs of the event, which includes provision of music.
